Fautin (2016) lists this species as both a member of Handactis Fautin 2016 and Paraiptasia England 1992 (see Fautin, 2016: 16-18, 92, 114). Its placement in Handactis stems from its earlier association with Cricophorus, the genus for which Fautin (2016: pp. 16-18) erected the replacement name Handactis. However, England (1992) moved this species to Paraiptasia when he created that genus. Fautin (2016) considers both of these as valid, but the currently used name for the species described as Actinia radiata is Paraiptasia radiata.
